Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sword stick, or sword cane, is a walking cane that conceals a steel blade inside its wooden shaft. Popular during the 18th to early 20th centuries, these functional accessories allowed gentlemen to carry a concealed weapon for self-defence while maintaining an elegant appearance.

Antique sword canes were commonly constructed using hardwoods, bamboo, or malacca for the shaft, paired with forged steel for the internal blade. The handles and ferrules were frequently rendered in precious metals, horn, bone, or carved timber.

Authentic period sword sticks feature hallmarks or makers marks on silver collars and handles, forged steel blades showing natural age or oxidation, and precisely fitted friction mounts or press-release locking mechanisms where the handle meets the shaft.

These items are best showcased horizontally on custom mounts within a display cabinet, mounted on a wall plaque, or arranged vertically inside an antique brass or mahogany stick stand alongside traditional walking canes.

The wooden exterior should be treated periodically with clear microcrystalline wax to prevent drying out, while the steel blade should be kept lightly oiled with mineral oil to prevent rust. Store the piece in a climate-controlled environment away from direct heat sources.
