Antique Goliath Omega Pocket Watch and Chain

1900 - 1920
Description

The watch has an 8 day stem-winding movement, identified as by Omega, which is working nicely… the watch kept time to within two minutes over a 7 day period. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 69mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in lovely condition.

The thick glass lens is in good condition, just a couple of small marks but not too serious at all.

The dial is in lovely condition with original pin set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes with a single chain 30cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Goliath pocket watch is an oversized mechanical timepiece, typically measuring between two and three inches in diameter, created during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Originally designed for travel, desk use, or high visibility, these timepieces frequently incorporated eight-day movements and robust cases.

These watches commonly featured cases constructed from nickel, nickel-plated brass, or gunmetal to withstand regular handling, while higher-end variations used sterling silver. Dials were predominantly made of fired white enamel with crisp black Roman or Arabic numerals and blued steel hands.

Authentic examples feature vitreous enamel dials with sharp typography, hand-assembled mechanical movements visible beneath a hinged case back, and stamped maker hallmarks or serial numbers. Look for wear consistent with age around the winding crown, hinges, and bow, alongside genuine Swiss movement markings.

Oversized pocket watches are frequently displayed on dedicated pocket watch stands, brass arches, or under glass cloches on desk surfaces and bookshelves. They serve as historical decorative accents within traditional, industrial, or library-style study spaces.

Mechanical timepieces require regular servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years to clean and oil the gear train. Avoid over-winding, keep the watch clear of water or high humidity, and store it in a temperature-controlled environment away from magnetic fields.
