Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian period, furniture makers drew inspiration from Renaissance and Gothic motifs, often incorporating hand-carved Green Man motifs depicting mythical foliate faces. These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid dark oak, featuring relief carving, sturdy proportions, and historical symbolism.

Antique oak dressers typically feature solid oak wood, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, mortise and tenon joinery, and panelling secured with wooden pegs or traditional fixings. The surfaces were finished with spirit varnishes or dark wax polishes to emphasize the natural grain patterns.

Authentic pieces show signs of genuine hand-tool marks on carved panels, uneven wear on drawer runners, original iron or brass key escutcheons, and natural shrinkage or patina in dark oak wood. Machine-carved modern reproductions usually display overly uniform depth and synthetic lacquer finishes.

Contrast the dark carved wood by positioning the dresser against neutral or muted painted walls, such as sage green or soft cream. Display contemporary ceramics, glassware, or potted plants on the shelves to soften the visual weight and blend traditional and modern elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth, ensuring dust is gently brushed out from detailed relief carvings using a soft bristles brush. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve moisture in the oak and avoid placing the piece near direct heat sources.
