ANTIQUE #SA1216541

Antique Dining Sofreh, Timuri Sangtshuli Tribe, Borderlands Of North-east Persia / North-west Afghanistan.

£3,850    $5,160    €4,510
Private Collection just acquired.

Yet another absolutely incredible weaving! A dining sofreh woven by the Sangtshuli Timuri tribes circa 1870-1880.

The central undyed, natural camel-hair field comprises a myriad of small stylised shrubs woven in overlay/underlay brocading and surrounded by extremely finely-woven borders in weft-substitution technique.

Absolutely stunning are the brocaded skirts each end with an amazing and delicate use of green in the central top and bottom skirts - extremely rare in weavings of the Timuri tribes.

In excellent condition other than a small re-weave in the top left corner of the elem.

Size: 1.85 x 0.91m (6'' 1'' x 3'' 0'').

Viewing by appointment only.
