Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen refers to small domestic objects made entirely from wood, produced predominantly prior to the mass adoption of metal and ceramics. During the George III era (17601820), craftsmen utilized hand-turning lathes to create functional items such as goblets, bowls, and spice boxes.

Lignum vitae is one of the dense, heavy hardwoods natively found in the West Indies. Its extreme density and high natural oil content made it impervious to liquids and highly resistant to wear, making it an ideal material for turned drinking vessels and domestic treen.

Authentic Georgian treen objects display subtle irregularities indicative of hand-turned craftsmanship, continuous subtle shrinkage across the grain over centuries, and a deep, naturally developed surface patina. Lignum vitae pieces are exceptionally heavy for their size and display a distinct dark grain with feather-like figuring.

A standalone treen goblet can be displayed on a dark wood bookshelf, mantelpiece, or within a cabinet of curiosities alongside historic leather-bound books or brass objects. Placing the item against neutral backdrops accentuates the rich grain and sculptural silhouette of turned timber.

Clean the surface gently using a soft dry cloth, avoiding contact with water or chemical solvents which strip historic patination. Apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the wood grain and maintain its lustrous sheen, keeping the item away from direct heat sources.
