Description

This handsome folk art ship in a box diorama which originated in France dates from the 19th century and is of a steam sailing ship which is encased in a painted white wood & glass fronted box.

This antique diorama which is of beautiful quality has a fabulous look having been lovingly handmade with the ship having intricate features such as three masts with sails and a funnel bellowing out steam.

The sail boat is fitted into it's wooden box which has blue sea to the base and is sailing near to an island with a lighthouse.

The painted blue background has Transport Vienne hand painted in orange and is fitted with a removable slide out glass front.

A charming piece of folk art which looks wonderful displayed on a shelf and makes a great talking piece.

Date: 19th century.

Dimensions: Length: 50 cm (19 1/2"). Width: 11 cm (4 1/2"). Height: 28 cm (11").

Weight: 2356 g.

Condition: Good original antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. Some age related wear, chips, dust and marks as expected. Some broken rigging and loose parts. Please see pictures.
