Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A strip map is a cartographic print depicting a specific travel route in vertical, ribbon-like columns. Popularised by cartographer John Ogilby in his 1675 atlas Britannia, these maps recorded distances in statute miles, local topography, and landmarks to assist road travellers across England and Wales.

Antique road maps were typically created using copperplate engraving printed onto handmade rag paper. Details were etched in reverse onto a copper sheet, inked, pressed onto wet paper, and subsequently hand-coloured with watercolour washes to delineate county borders and features.

Authentic Ogilby maps feature distinct copperplate impressions around the image border, a central vertical fold from atlas binding, and fine laid paper showing chain lines when held to the light. The distinctive vertical scroll format detailing miles and compass roses is also characteristic of Ogilbys work.

Framed cartography works effectively hung above a sideboard, lining a staircase wall, or within a study or home library. The warmth of historical paper and gilded frames complements dark wood joinery, traditional panelling, or neutral modern backgrounds.

Display framed paper prints away from direct sunlight and moisture sources to prevent fading, paper discolouration, or foxing. Use UV-protective glass when framing, ensure acid-free backing materials are used, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels.
