Lincoln Restorations has dated this piece to the Regency era.
A rare pair of William IV Mahogany chairs .
A classic example of 19th-century English cabinet making, these chairs are crafted from high-quality, dense Mahogany, showcasing a rich, deep grain pattern and a wonderfully warm tone across the curved top rails. The timber has been carefully prepared and hand-waxed in our workshop to preserve the authentic patina while achieving a beautifully clear, lustrous finish.

The defining feature of this particular pair is the elegant turned and carved decoration to the front legs. Featuring delicate reeding and distinctive carved detailing just below the seat rail, these front legs transition smoothly down to traditional collared feet, adding an extra layer of sophisticated historical character to the classic William IV silhouette. The reverse of the chairs displays gracefully swept back legs that ensure excellent stability and strength.

The drop-in seats have been newly and fully upholstered to a professional standard, finished in a striking contemporary botanical velvet featuring rich blue and teal palm leaf motifs. This bold fabric choice beautifully complements the deep, historic tones of the Mahogany, creating a superb balance between period charm and modern interior design style.

As professional restorers, we have thoroughly checked over the frames in our workshop to ensure that the joinery remains structurally sound, sturdy, and entirely free from loose movement or wobble. This beautiful pair is fully prepared and ready to immediately serve as a standout feature in a hallway, bedroom, or as elegant occasional seating in a main living area.

Please note that we currently have a very closely matching set of six William IV dining chairs available for sale at the time of listing. These two lots share an excellent local provenance, having been acquired together from the very same residence where they spent generations being utilised together as a grand set of eight. While the main set features plain turned legs rather than the carved detailing seen on this pair, they share an identical fabric and match beautifully in timber tone, height, and overall scale. We have included a visual comparison in the listing photos, placing one of the chairs from the set of six alongside this pair to clearly show the subtle variances in the hand-crafted crest rails and leg turnings.

Condition Report: These chairs are in superb structural and aesthetic condition following professional workshop preparation. As expected with genuine antiques of this age, the frames display minor historic character marks and light blemishes under the wax finish, which only serve to validate their age and add to the overall heritage and story of the pieces.
