An Exceptionally Rare Edwardian Solid Oak Octagonal Games Table, circa 1910
Crafted to a very high standard, this table is a magnificent standalone piece that comfortably accommodates up to eight players for cards, chess, or board games.

The table features a striking octagonal top crafted from solid Oak, showcasing a deep nut-brown colour. The solid Oak timber on the top surfaces possesses a wonderful depth of honest historic patina, showing clear evidence that it has been used and enjoyed a fair amount over the last century, which adds immense character to the piece. The playing surface has been recently replaced with a premium green baize cloth, ensuring it is very clean with virtually no marks or signs of use. This vibrant, fresh baize is neatly bordered and held securely by individual brass stud studs. Highlighting the traditional construction of the piece, the eight integrated counter or card dishes at each player's station are individually turned from separate pieces of Oak and masterfully inset into pre-cut holes in the tabletop. These inset dishes cleverly protrude through to the underside of the top, providing a fantastic tactile detail that speaks its quality.

The structure is supported by four substantial, turned and tapering legs that terminate in elegant pad feet. The legs support a generous, lower under-tier shelf with beautifully shaped edges which intersect its legs. This secondary surface is robustly constructed from five wide planks of solid Oak and provides excellent storage for card cases, game boxes, or drinks during play, keeping the main baize surface completely clear. It is an exceptionally sturdy, social piece of furniture that seamlessly combines Edwardian elegance with functional design.

Condition Report The table has been thourougly checked over in our workshop to ensure absolute structural integrity. The frame is entirely stable and very solid, with completely tight joints, no movement, and absolutely no wobbles. The top surfaces exhibit a heavy, authentic patina with many historic marks, scuffs, and small indentations consistent with over a century of genuine use. The separately turned Oak counter dishes are all completely original, firmly seated, and remain robustly intact where they protrude through the underside. The green baize playing surface has been recently replaced and is in pristine condition, being very clean with virtually no marks, wear, or staining, and the decorative brass studs remain firmly seated. The lower under-tier, formed of wide solid Oak planks, is fully secure, flat, and in robust condition. A highly usable, clean, and beautifully finished antique card table ready for immediate enjoyment.
