A fine quality antique French writing table dating from the late 19th century, beautifully crafted in the Louis XVI taste and veneered in richly figured kingwood with intricate parquetry decoration throughout.
 
The rectangular top is decorated with attractive parquetry inlay and framed by kingwood crossbanding. The frieze incorporates a single drawer, centred by a finely cast gilt bronze ormolu plaque depicting classical cherub figures, with further ormolu mouldings and decorative mounts enriching the design.
 
Standing on elegant tapering fluted legs terminating in gilt bronze sabots, the table displays the refined proportions and craftsmanship associated with high-quality French cabinetmaking of the Belle Époque period.
 
The warm colour of the kingwood veneers combines beautifully with the rich gilt bronze mounts, creating a piece that is both decorative and practical. Ideal for use as a writing desk, centre table, console table or occasional table.
