This early 18th-century oil painting by an artist working in the circle of Transylvanian painter Tobias Stranover (1684-1756) depicts various exotic and ornamental birds within an Arcadian landscape.At the centre, a peacock perches upon a stone ledge, its long tail descending in a cascade of russet and green eyespots, while nearby stand a crowned crane, a scarlet macaw, a waterfowl, and a resting duck. Behind them, fragments of classical architecture lend the scene an atmosphere of antiquity.
