Ritas Bazaar has dated this Dark Green Jade Censer to the Edwardian era.
The stone displays a rich spinach-green colour with dark almost black areas contrasting against lighter olive-green translucent sections. Natural mineral inclusions and veining are visible throughout the body, giving the stone a varied and attractive appearance. The hand-polished surface retains a soft natural sheen rather than the highly glossy appearance often associated with later production.
The tripod form derives from ancient Chinese ritual bronze vessels known as ding, forms that were reproduced in jade during the Ming and Qing dynasties for scholars' objects and cabinet display pieces. Jade occupied a central position in Chinese culture, symbolising refinement, purity, virtue and status.
The removable cover is topped with a finely carved Foo Dog finial with scrolling mane and curled tail. The movable rings are carved from the same block of jade, a technically demanding and time-consuming feature of traditional Chinese hardstone carving. The side handles emerge from stylised mythical beast masks, further reinforcing the archaistic character of the piece.
Tripod censers of this type remained popular decorative scholar’s objects during the late Qing and early Republic period and continue to be highly sought after by collectors of Chinese jade and Asian works of art.

Excellent antique condition overall. A small fine crack is visible on the inner rim. The rings, handles and Foo Dog finial remain intact, with no major chips or losses. The stone retains an attractive natural surface and displays beautifully.
