Fine 'Ahmadi' Isfahan Rug, Central Persia, Circa 1910, 2.33m X 1.43m

1900 - 1920
Description

The term 'Ahmadi' refers to one of the elite carpet weaving workshops in Isfahan around 1900 -1920. Ahmadi rugs can be recognised by their fine grainy wool and the colours, in particular a crimson red. This masterpiece of a rug certainly fits the bill, and does great credit to the Ahmadi reputation. Fine wool and a high khot count have been combined to create a tactile and luxurious texture. Moreover, the design is sensational, conceived in the design workshops and executed to perfection. A wonderful flowering tree on an ivory field dominates the composition. Perched among the branches are various birds while a pair of rabbits at the base of the field look up towards their avian friends. Two smaller trees with more birds decorate the rest of the field. Framing the field are floral borders drawn on the ubiquitous crimson red background with elegant corner solutions. Cherished through the generations this piece has survived in absolutely mint condition, and has recently received a light wash in our own workshop. This is a highly collectible rug from the important 'Revivalist' Period of Persian carpet weaving.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Isfahan rugs from Central Persia are renowned for precise hand-knotting, detailed curvilinear designs, and balanced compositions, frequently incorporating central medallions or pictorial Tree of Life patterns woven during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These carpets are constructed using a fine wool pile, occasionally Kork wool, hand-knotted onto a strong cotton or silk foundation, with yarns tinted using organic vegetable dyes.

Authentic examples feature asymmetrical knots visible on the reverse, subtle color shading known as abrash, high knot counts, and intricate botanical or bird motifs rather than rigid geometric shapes.

A pictorial Persian rug functions as a foundational design element, contrasting effectively with clean-lined modern furniture, neutral upholstery, and timber flooring to introduce historical texture.

Maintenance requires regular vacuuming without a rotating beater bar, annual rotation to balance foot traffic exposure, immediate blot-cleaning of liquid spills, and periodic specialist hand-washing.
