This finely potted cabinet jar features a classic and vibrant Huaniao (Birds and Flowers) motif, expertly rendered in a rich famille rose and wucai hybrid palette typical of the late Qing Dynasty revival period. The main body depicts two brilliantly enamelled long-tailed pheasants perched amidst an asymmetrical composition of pierced scholars' rockery, blossoming peonies, and twisting plum branches. The reverse is balanced by elegant sprays of yellow chrysanthemum and seasonal flora.

The base bears a crisp, hand-painted six-character mark in overglaze iron red reading 大清光緒年製 (Da Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi), and the piece is securely attributed to the Guangxu Period (1875–1908) based on several key physical indicators:

Calligraphic Merit: The iron-red reign mark is executed with a confident, fluid hand characteristic of late 19th-century luxury domestic wares. The pigment shows natural depth and microscopic integration with the underlying glaze, wholly distinct from the rigid, stamped, or stencilled marks found on modern reproductions.

Glaze & Material Texture: The exterior glaze displays a classic, soft, undulating "muslin" texture with organic pinholes and occasional tiny iron spots. This micro-texture is indicative of the late Qing wood-fired kilns, contrasting sharply with the chemically pristine, perfectly flat surfaces produced by modern gas or electric industrial kilns.

Enamel Density: The palette utilizes opaque, slightly chalky pinks, thick vibrant greens, and a richly textured cobalt blue for the rockery. The enamelling displays a subtle, honest wear to the raised highlights, consistent with a century of handling and dusting.

Potting Characteristics: The interior exhibits distinct, unrefined wheel-chatter marks left during the throwing process, typical of an era where exterior finishing was prioritized over the hidden interior. Furthermore, the unglazed foot rim shows an authentic, deep, seasoned patination from decades of resting on surfaces, free from modern chemical or acid-etched distressing.

This jar represents a superb example of the late Qing ceramic renaissance, highly collectible for its classic academic style and beautifully preserved colour.
