Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco opal jewellery, crafted between the 1920s and 1930s, pairs geometric or stylized organic metalwork with vibrant gemstones. Black opal doublets were frequently utilised during this era to emphasize vivid spectral colours within structured precious metal settings.

An opal doublet is a composite gemstone formed by joining a thin layer of natural precious opal to a dark backing material, such as potch or ironstone. This technique reinforces the gem while intensifying its inherent play-of-colour.

Authentic period pieces feature British hallmarks or fineness stamps on the bail, setting, or chain. A distinct side profile showing the join between the opal slice and dark backing, combined with period-appropriate hand finishing, indicates genuine construction.

While designed primarily as wearable fine jewellery, historic gold pendants can be displayed in a velvet-lined shadow box frame or suspended beneath a glass cloche on a brass display stand when not being worn.

Opal doublets require protection from water immersion, extreme humidity, and chemical exposure to safeguard the adhesive bonding layer. Clean the metal and gemstone gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth and store separately from harder gemstones.
