Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Louis XVI cheval mirror, or psyche, is a full-length floor-standing dressing mirror supported by two upright posts within a trestle frame. Originating in late 18th-century France, the style is characterised by Neoclassical restraint, featuring straight lines, fluted columns, brass mounts, and finials.

These mirrors are typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, often adorned with brass or gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts. The central mirror plate pivots on brass swivel hinges, mounted above splayed legs with brass sabots.

Authentic pieces feature geometric proportions, architectural fluting on the upright supports, and classical motifs such as urn finials or leaf swags. Construction hallmarks include hand-cut dovetails on the trestle base and period-appropriate brass swivel mechanisms.

Positioning a full-length mirror near a natural light source enhances spatial depth and light distribution. It functions effectively as a focal piece in a dressing room, master bedroom suite, or spacious entrance hallway alongside contemporary or traditional furnishings.

Clean the mahogany timber with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to maintain the patina. Clean the glass plate using non-ammonia mirror cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the frame to prevent moisture damage to the wood and mounts.
