Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mid-19th century pollard oak sideboard typically features a twin-pedestal design with enclosed cupboards, carved architectural detailing, and prominent grain patterns resulting from pollarding techniques. Popular during the Victorian era, these pieces served as primary storage and serving surfaces in formal dining spaces.

Pollard oak refers to timber harvested from oak trees pruned at the crown to encourage dense branch growth, producing burr-like figuring and rich grain variations. Craftsmen applied sliced veneers of this decorative timber over solid oak or pine carcasses to construct stable, visually complex surfaces.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, thick sawn veneers, solid timber or cast hardware, and hand-carved details such as corbels or mouldings. The timber displays natural age-related darkening within the grain pattern and a developed surface wax patina.

Position the sideboard against a feature wall in a dining area, wide hallway, or living room to serve as a focal point. Balance the heavy proportion by pairing it with contemporary artwork, minimalist ceramic vessels, or modern table lamps on the top surface.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent veneer movement or lifting. Dust regularly with a clean lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly to protect the finish and preserve the wood.
