Teak garden benches became popular in public parks and private estates throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries due to teaks exceptional resistance to outdoor elements. Originally constructed using reclaimed timber from retired wooden ships, these benches evolved into a staple feature of English landscape design.

Authentic teak benches are crafted from dense tropical hardwood with a high natural oil content. Construction typically involves traditional joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints with wooden dowels, alongside slatted seats and backrests that allow water drainage.
