Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French bombe commode is a chest of drawers characterised by its outward-swelling, convex front and sides. Originating during the Rococo and Louis XV periods of the 18th century, the design features curved silhouettes, carved aprons, short cabriole legs, and frequently a contoured marble top.

Commodes from this era were constructed using dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood for the frame. Surface treatments included ebonised finishes, hand-applied veneers, or marquetry, typically complemented by hand-carved stone or marble surfaces and cast brass hardware.

Authentic period commodes display signs of hand construction, including hand-cut dovetail joints, irregular hand-sawn wood backings, and chiseled undersides on marble tops. Cast brass mounts from the period often show oxidisation and hand-chased surface details.

A bombe commode functions well as a focal piece in an entryway, dining room, or principal bedroom. Contemporary styling pairs the dark, curved wooden silhouette with minimalist artwork, metallic sconces, or modern ceramics placed on the marble surface.

Dust the timber with a dry microfibre cloth and apply neutral bees wax periodically to protect the original finish, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners. The marble top should be wiped with a ph-neutral damp cloth and protected from acidic substances to prevent etching.
