We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mustard pots gained widespread popularity in Britain during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as prepared wet mustard replaced dry mustard powder at the table. Silver makers crafted elaborate containers, often incorporating removable glass liners to protect the metal from the corrosive effects of vinegar.

Victorian mustard pots were primarily constructed from sterling silver or silver plate, featuring pierced, cast, or chased decoration. They typically contained a cobalt blue glass liner designed to hold the condiment safely while contrasting visually against the silver.

Authentic pieces display official British silver hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, a town mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. Inspecting the hinge construction, weight, and fit of the blue glass liner can also confirm originality.

These decorative tabletop items can be displayed on a dining sideboard alongside other silverware, used on a contemporary table setting for salt or specialty spices, or repurposed as small trinket holders on a dressing table.

Always remove the glass liner before cleaning to prevent moisture entrapment between the glass and metal structure. Clean the silver framework using a specialised silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth, avoiding harsh abrasives that could wear down delicate piercing or hallmarks.
