Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A quarter repeating pocket watch is a mechanical horological device that chimes the hours and quarter-hours on demand via an internal chime mechanism. Developed in the late seventeenth century, this feature allowed the user to ascertain the time in total darkness before the advent of electricity.

Eighteenth-century French pocket watches typically incorporated high-carat gold or silver cases, hand-painted vitreous enamel dials, and brass mechanical movements with steel balance springs. Outer cases and bezels were frequently adorned with diamonds, paste stones, or intricate hand-engraved metalwork.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the maker signature on the dial or movement plate, verifying period-correct hallmarks on the casing, and testing the function of the chiming mechanism. Era-appropriate hand-cut screws, fusee chain drives, and hand-finished components further confirm original eighteenth-century manufacture.

Antique pocket watches are frequently displayed under glass cloches or mounted on brass pocket watch stands placed on desks or mantelpieces. They can also be housed within custom shadow-box frames to be displayed as decorative wall art.

Store the pocket watch in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from magnetic fields and moisture. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a specialist horologist, while the exterior gold case and enamel dial should be dusted using a dry microfibre cloth without chemical cleaners.
