Mounted in antique gold, 4 cabochons of rich red and candy-like hue, particularly highlighted under natural sunlight, present a lustrous contrast between darker shades in the shadows. Beneath, a lavalier style foliate drop is embellished with old cut diamonds that sway beautifully upon wearing and movement.
Exemplary of the entomological/naturalistic fascination of the Victorians, the centre is embellished with a sweet yet regal fly, juxtaposed by sparkling old cut diamonds and two fine garnets as its eyes. In many ways, the Victorian fascination with insects was indicative of the scientific, biological and technological changes of the era, which was further reflected in fashion and design.
