Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edo period samurai armour, known as yoroi, refers to protective military equipment produced in Japan between 1603 and 1867. During this era of relative peace, armour evolved from functional battlefield gear to highly ornate ceremonial wear representing social status.

Traditional yoroi construction incorporated articulated iron and leather plates, bound together using woven silk cord (odoshi). The surfaces were coated with urushi lacquer for protection against humidity, alongside decorative gilded brass and chainmail elements.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved wooden or hammered iron components, aged urushi lacquer exhibiting natural crazing or patina, and authentic hand-woven silk lacing showing historic wear. Markings or signatures from historical armourer guilds inside the helmet bowl (kabuto) also aid identification.

A complete suit of armour serves as a sculptural statement piece on its included display chest (yoroibako). Place it against a neutral wall in a library, study, or foyer with directional spot lighting to highlight the textured lacquer and metallic details.

Keep the suit away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent the lacquer from cracking. Dust gently using a soft camel-hair brush, maintain stable humidity levels between 50 and 60 percent, and avoid applying commercial chemical cleaners to the original silk lacing.
