Description:
This is a good quality antique English 16th century Elizabethan style small carved oak box stool, incorporating earlier timbers, with a carved lunette frieze, displaying a lovely rich colour, in excellent condition.
It was common for furniture and timbers to be repurposed / recycled from earlier furniture over 200 years ago. This was due to fact very little was wasted or discarded back then! This English box stool comprises a solid oak hinged moulded lid, above a lunette carved frieze; standing on four turned legs, united by bar-shape stretchers, for additional strength, and terminating on block feet. The oak box stool opens to reveal a storage area below. The iron strap hinges appear to be original and are in good working condition, as is the shaped iron hasp and staple on the front of the lid. The stool has been made with traditional mortise and tenon joints, retaining the original wooden pegs. Ideal for use as a storage box or as a low occasional table.

This oak joint stool would certainly grace any home and it is a great investment, as it is extremely functional and also decorative. The oak box stool is solid in joint and ready to use.
