Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the mid-18th century by Thomas Boulsover, the Old Sheffield plate process fused a layer of silver to a copper ingot before rolling it into sheets. Small dressing table items, such as perfume funnels, were crafted during the Georgian and Regency eras to enable the precise transfer of liquid fragrances into narrow-necked bottles.

These items were constructed from fused silver-and-copper sheet metal, shaped using hand-hammering, die-stamping, and seam-soldering techniques. The tapered spout was joined to the conical body, and the rim was often finished with a turned edge or drawn silver wire to hide the exposed copper layer.

Authentic Old Sheffield plate often demonstrates copper exposure, known as bleeding, in areas subject to repeated polishing. Unlike electroplated silver developed in the 1840s, genuine Georgian pieces feature visible soldered seams, folded or reeded wire edges, and distinct stamped maker marks rather than standard electroplate alphanumeric codes.

This small decorative metalwork object can be arranged on a marble vanity tray alongside vintage glass scent bottles, or positioned on a bathroom counter. It also serves as a collectible display piece inside a glass-fronted cabinet or curio box.

Maintain the surface by wiping with a soft, dry cotton cloth and applying a mild, non-abrasive silver polish sparingly when required. Avoid chemical immersion dips and harsh rubbing, as excessive abrasion permanently removes the delicate outer silver layer and exposes the underlying copper.
