Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Napkin rings originated in 19th-century France as a practical means to identify individual cloth napkins between laundering cycles. High-end Parisian luxury houses later crafted these utilitarian table items in sterling silver and silver-gilt with elaborate patterns to serve as formal dining accoutrements.

High-end napkin rings are typically cast or raised from sterling silver, containing 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Silver-gilt pieces feature a thin layer of gold plated over the sterling silver base, often accented with hand-chased or engine-turned geometric textures like Clous de Paris studs.

French silver features official state purity hallmarks, such as the Minerva head mark for silver purity, alongside a makers mark within a diamond lozenge. Authentic luxury pieces, such as those from Parisian maker Hermes, typically bear stamped block lettering, maker initials, and purity stamps on the interior or exterior rim.

Silver and silver-gilt napkin rings add texture and structural elegance to modern table settings when paired with neutral linen napkins and minimalist dinnerware. Mixing metal finishes, such as silver and gold tones, creates a refined contemporary tablescape for formal dinner parties.

Clean silver and silver-gilt items using a soft microfiber cloth and a mild silver polish specifically formulated for precious metals. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals that can strip gold gilding, and store pieces in anti-tarnish felt or fabric-lined boxes when not in use.
