Lincoln Restorations has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
A Rare 19th Century Milti-Panel Fireside Log Store & Centre Piece.
It is a completely unique example, presenting a clean, geometric architectural design that sets it apart from standard fireside furniture, with the full panelling extending to the rear indicating it was likely a bespoke commission. Each face is beautifully configured with dual raised-moulded panels, allowing it to look elegant from every angle. This fully panelled design means it can be confidently placed in the centre of a room, serving as a striking small centre piece or low coffee table. The piece rests on a deep, solid plinth base that gives it a wonderfully grounded and stately presence.

The Mahogany carcass retains its original French polished finish, which has been sympathetically revived to showcase its deep, warm colour and rich grain character. The timber is framed beautifully by darker crossbanded borders to the lid, which displays a smooth, naturally patinated wear along the front lip from decades of authentic use. When opened, the underside of the lid and the inner frame reveal a spectacular patina built up from all the historical dents and honest damage left behind by the coal—a fantastic, tactile mark of genuine history that has been carefully preserved.

The interior houses its original, heavy-duty galvanised metal lift-out liner, complete with wire handles. Unlike many antique purdoniums where the liner has succumbed to moisture and coal dust, this example remains in remarkably good condition with no holes.

The proportions and robust design of this piece make it incredibly versatile for the modern home. Standing at an ideal height with a finished top, it functions beautifully as an unpadded footstool, a small coffee table, or a sofa side table, whilst providing excellent practical storage as a log store, coal box, or general storage chest.

Condition Report
In excellent antique condition throughout. The Mahogany carcass is sound, solid, and the original French polish has been beautifully revived to enhance its depth of colour. The original galvanised liner is structurally sound and intact with no holes, showing only age-appropriate oxidation and honest wear from historical use. Please note this item is in very good condition for its age but will have the odd blemish here and there, however, we feel that adds to the charm of the item with it being an antique.
