Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sideboards from the 1820s and 1830s feature heavier proportions than earlier Regency examples, often incorporating breakfront silhouettes, architectural arches, rich flame mahogany veneers, and solid plinth bases.

These pieces were constructed using solid mahogany framework combined with highly figured flame mahogany veneers applied over pine or oak carcasses, finished with brass locks and turned or carved timber details.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, hand-sawn timber marks on back panels, original brass lock mechanisms, and uneven natural oxidisation across the timber surface.

Position the piece as a central focal point against a neutral backdrop, topped with contemporary artwork, oversized table lamps, or minimal ceramic vessels to balance the heavy timber proportions.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the item away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent timber movement.
