Small Limed Oak Sideboard by Heals of London C.1920

Description

Rare little limed oak sideboard by Heal's of London c.1920. Useful small size, just 48" wide. With three drawers of graduated height flanked by cupboards, each with a single shelf inside (internal depth 18"). Note the dividers and green baize lining to the top drawer and how the shallower shelf inside the right hand cupboard allows bottles to stood in front. Simple machine age design with limed oak veneers and dark stained handles. Raised on unusual solid ends extending to the floor and with crisp moulded detail to the edges. Original Heal's Tottenham Court Road label to the top drawer front. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

Popularised during the 1920s and 1930s, this style favoured clean geometric forms, balanced proportions, and understated decorative elements transitional between Arts and Crafts and Art Deco.
