Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware is a distinctive style of Japanese earthenware pottery characterised by a yellowish crackle glaze and detailed hand-painted decoration. Originating in the Satsuma province during the late sixteenth century, many Satsuma ceramic vases were later adapted or created specifically as decorative table lamp bases during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries for Western export.

These lamps typically feature a crackle-glazed earthenware body decorated with polychrome enamels and gold leaf gilding. The ceramic vessel is mounted on turned wooden or gilt-bronze pedestals and fitted with electrical components and fabric shades, such as pleated silk or cotton.

Authentic pieces exhibit a fine, ivory-coloured glaze with micro-craquelure visible across the surface. Look for detailed enamel work featuring figurative motifs, warriors, or floral scenes, often accompanied by raised gilded accents (moriage) and Japanese maker marks or signatures painted on the base.

A pair of Satsuma table lamps works as a symmetrical focal point on a dining room sideboard, hallway console, or paired bedside tables. Their rich colours and traditional motifs contrast effectively against neutral backdrop walls or complement classic dark wood furniture.

Dust the ceramic bases regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to protect the delicate gilding and hand-painted enamels. Avoid using liquid chemical cleaners, abrasive pads, or immersion in water, as moisture can seep into the crackle glaze and damage the internal wiring.
