In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this Antique Microscope Slide Cabinet to the 1870s.
Each drawer is lined with blue velvet and divided internally into three rows, each capable of holding 8 standard microscope slides, giving each drawer a capacity for 24 slides and meaning the cabinet can hold 312 slides! The bottom section of the cabinet has had the drawers removed, presumably to make space for larger pieces of equipment such as lenses or bowls etc.

The nature of the cabinet means that it could be used for a variety of things and not just microscope slides - it would display a collection of coins very well too.
It is in good condition for its age. There are some knocks and marks around the cabinet and the mahogany has faded over time but there are no major damages. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
