George II–III Period Mahogany Tripod Supper Table, c.1760
A well-proportioned and attractive Georgian tripod supper table, with good colour, an honest surface and practical everyday usability, presented in complete and original configuration. Dating from around 1760, the table features a circular, single-piece solid mahogany top of good colour and attractive grain, mounted on a traditional box birdcage mechanism with dovetailed corner construction, allowing the top to pivot and tilt. The top is supported on an elegantly turned baluster column, raised on a tripod base with well-shaped cabriole legs terminating in rounded pad feet.
Constructed throughout in solid early mahogany of excellent colour and density, this is a strong and original example of the type, displaying pleasing proportions, confident workmanship and an attractive, naturally developed surface. A versatile and useful small table, suitable for use as a supper table, occasional table or lamp table, with the tilt-top
...feature allowing it to be stored neatly when not in use.

Dimensions (approximate):
Height: 70 cm (27 1/2 in)
Diameter of top: 79.25 cm (31 1/4 in)
Condition:
In very good and original condition, commensurate with age. Structurally sound and sturdy, with the birdcage mechanism operating correctly. The table retains its original surface and has never been French polished, preserving its rich colour and natural patina. There are visible marks and surface wear to the top consistent with long use, together with visible wear around the feet, entirely typical for a table of this age and form. A fine, stable hairline to the top is present but unobtrusive and does not affect strength or usability. Cleaned and waxed in our workshop and ready for use.
As with all antique furniture, signs of age and use are to be expected and form part of the historic character of the piece.
