Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this Art Deco Bronze Sculpture to the 1930s.

The cold painted finish is in very good condition with only a few minor age related small signs of wear. The figure is made in two separate pieces where the bird can be lifted off the wave where it locates onto a shaped bronze peg which fits into a matching hole.

The sculpture is fully signed Dautrive on the reverse of the wave. The renowned French artist, Emile Dautrive, was active from the late 1920s through the 1930s producing iconic Art Deco sculptures. It is mounted onto a very large and heavy cut and polished black marble plinth which is designed to counterbalance the heavy bronze bird which gives the impression of almost floating in an impossible position. A very clever design and a beautiful sculpture.
French circa 1930.
