The Antique Clock Co. has dated this Antique Brass Lantern Clock to the 17th Century.
The clock has been reconverted to verge escapement, and the hoop and spikes were reinstalled at the same time. All the work has been carried out sympathetically and is in keeping with the original parts of the movement. Original doors, dolphin frets, bell strap and hand.
Attractive floral engraved dial centre and the chapter ring with ‘matchstick flower’ half hour markers.
There is little known about John Spershott, although there was a James Spershott who was an 18th-century Chichester carpenter who was possibly a later relation.
