Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, silver-handled novelty canes served as status symbols for fashionable gentlemen. Handles were frequently sculpted into animal heads, such as eagles or greyhounds, reflecting Victorian and Edwardian tastes for naturalistic motifs and fine metalwork.

Antique walking canes typically feature handles made from hallmarked sterling silver, 800 continental silver, gold, or carved horn. These handles were mounted on sturdy hardwood shafts crafted from woods such as malacca, bamboo, rosewood, or ebony.

Authentic silver canes usually feature clear silversmith hallmarks or continental silver purity marks, such as 800 for German items, stamped near the collar or handle base. Genuine period pieces demonstrate hand-finished sculpting details, natural patina, and original joinery between the handle and the shaft.

Antique walking canes make decorative accents when displayed collectively in an antique brass umbrella stand or mounted horizontally on a dark wood wall plaque. They add texture and historical character to an entrance hall or gentlemans study.

Clean the silver handle gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners that could strip delicate detail or original oxidation. Keep the wood shaft away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping.
