Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty silver pin cushions gained popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, produced predominantly in British silversmithing centres such as Birmingham and Chester. Crafted in diverse figural forms ranging from birds to animals like kangaroos, these items served both practical sewing purposes and decorative roles on dressing tables.

These items typically feature a hollow cast or stamped sterling silver body fitted with a textile insert. The internal cushion is commonly made of velvet or wool stuffed with horsehair or emery powder, designed to hold steel sewing pins without causing corrosion.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmarks stamped directly onto the silver casing, indicating the purity mark, assay office town mark, date letter, and makers initials. Assessing the sharpness of the cast detail, wear to high points, and original textile interior also helps determine authenticity.

Small silver collectables function well as accent pieces displayed on bookshelves, side tables, or curated curio trays. Grouping figural objects alongside antique leather-bound books or inside glass cloches creates visual interest in a room scheme.

Clean the silver exterior gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polishing cream, avoiding abrasive cleaners. Ensure liquid polish does not come into contact with the fabric cushion, as moisture can damage the original textile insert and cause internal rusting of pins.
