Marlborough Antiques & Interiors has dated this Carved Oak Wainscot Chair to the 19th Century.
This wonderfully characterful chair draws inspiration from traditional 17th century Wainscot chairs, displaying many of the classic features associated with the form including substantial plank construction, geometric carved decoration, solid seat and a combination of square and turned supports united by stretchers.
Traditionally, Wainscot chairs were associated with status and craftsmanship, often placed in halls, parlours and principal rooms within country houses and manor homes. This example beautifully captures that historic character while remaining highly practical and decorative for modern interiors. The chair has developed a wonderfully rich deep oak patina and displays excellent age, colour and texture throughout. It would work beautifully as a hall chair, occasional chair, desk chair or statement piece within both traditional and contemporary interiors. A handsome and highly decorative piece with excellent presence.

Condition: Good solid antique condition with later additions and alterations consistent with age and use. Surface wear, marks, historic repairs and imperfections commensurate with period. Structurally solid and displays well.
Other Measurements : Seat Height 47 cm and Arm Height 67 cm
