Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III silver tankard is a large, single-handled drinking vessel produced in Britain during the reign of King George III, between 1760 and 1820. These pieces typically feature a tapered cylindrical body, a double-scroll handle, a moulded girdle band, and a hinged domed lid.

Eighteenth-century silver tankards were hand-hammered from sheets of sterling silver, with body seams, handles, thumbpieces, and bases joined using silver solder. The hallmarks were hand-stamped by the regional assay office to guarantee metal purity.

Authentic British sterling silver displays a complete set of stamped hallmarks, including the makers mark, the lion passant for silver purity, a town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture. Georgian pieces also frequently feature a monarchs head duty mark introduced in 1784.

An antique silver tankard can be displayed as a standalone decorative piece on a sideboard, accent table, or within a gentlemans library bookcase. It can also function as a vessel for dried botanical arrangements or as part of a curated silver metalwork collection.

Sterling silver should be polished gently using a non-abrasive silver cream and a soft cotton cloth to remove tarnish without stripping the natural patina. Regular dusting and storage in low-humidity environments help prevent accelerated oxidisation.
