A James Purdey & Sons Oak And Leather Cartridge Case, Late 19th Century

A Late 19th Century leather on oak cartridge case by James Purdey & Sons, London. The hand sewn leather case is in lovely original condition with a brass lock and clasp and carrying handle to the top. The interior is divided into 6 compartments each with belt buckle lifters for ease of the cartridges removal. Capacity for approximately 450 cartridges.
 
The case is made by the London gun makers Purdey & Sons. The label on the inside was in use by the firm between 1883 and 1901. It bears two royal warrants, one for Queen Victoria and one for the future King Edward VIII.
 
Of a lovely colour and patination and bearing marks consistent with its age and use. It measures 47cm (18½'') wide, 32cm (12½) deep and 15.5cm (6'') high.
