Phil Bell Antique Rugs has dated this Antique Karabagh Wool Rug to the 1910s.
This one has the design drawn sideways which must have been a complex process, it shows griffins at each end with another two facing each other in the central panel. The colours are subdued which is probably good in such a bold design, the rug certainly has a very european feel to it. I think the narrow border gives space for the design to breathe. A highly unusual but very decorative rug.
Fair condition, the pile is low but acceptable. The rug bows outward at the bottom end due to its woollen foundation.
