Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late nineteenth century, Aesthetic Movement furniture emphasised craftsmanship and elegant forms, frequently incorporating dark ebonised woods, Anglo-Japanese stylistic details, turned spindles, and fine incised gilding.

Cabinetmakers utilised dense hardwoods such as beech, birch, or walnut, which were stained black to replicate imported ebony, often accented with incised gilded highlights, brass castors, and luxury upholstery fabrics like velvet.

Authentic pieces generally display precise joinery, finely turned spindles, original brass castors, subtle parcel-gilt line decoration, and occasionally stamped maker marks or inventory numbers on the frame legs.

This style functions as a focal accent chair in a living room, study, or bedroom, pairing effectively with neutral backdrops to contrast the dark timber and vivid velvet upholstery.

Dust ebonised frames gently using a dry microfibre cloth to protect the finish and gilding, while velvet upholstery should be carefully brushed or vacuumed with a soft attachment and kept away from direct sunlight.
