Pair of Swedish Art Deco Armchairs in Satin Birch

1920 - 1940
Description

A stunning pair of Swedish Art Deco armchairs in satin birch. These were recently imported from Sweden, they date from the 1930’s period.

They are beautifully made with a gorgeous design. These have lovely curves that run all the way from the backs, down the arms and to the feet. They are supportive, fully sprung and very comfortable, they look amazing from all angles.

The satin birch frames have been re-polished and are in great condition for their age, with just some incredibly minor historical wear beneath the polish. We have also had these newly upholstered in our cream cotton fabric. The overall condition is excellent.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Art Deco, often associated with the Swedish Grace movement of the 1920s and 1930s, combines classicism with clean functionalism. It frequently features light native timbers like satin birch, streamlined silhouettes, and subtle geometric detail.

Pieces from this period typically utilise solid hardwoods and veneers such as satin birch, maple, or walnut for exposed timber accents. The frames are constructed using traditional joinery, paired with natural fibre padding and spring-bound upholstery.

Authentic pieces display period-correct joinery techniques, such as mortise and tenon joints, alongside natural wood grain patterns like flame satin birch. Inspecting underlying upholstery construction and searching for original maker stamps or stencils also assists in verification.

These armchairs integrate well alongside contemporary minimalist furniture due to their clean architectural lines. Pair them with geometric textiles, neutral stone side tables, or subtle warm lighting to highlight the blonde timber details.

Dust exposed woodwork regularly with a soft cloth and apply clear beeswax polish sparingly to preserve the wood finish. Clean fabric upholstery using low-suction vacuum attachments, and position the chairs away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber warping or fabric fading.
