Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, work tables were designed for ladies to store needlework, embroidery, and writing accoutrements. The lyre-end support, inspired by classical Greek instruments, became a signature motif of the Regency and Empire periods.

These tables are primarily constructed from figured mahogany or rosewood veneers, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints and carved lyre-shaped end supports. They often incorporate a silk or pleated fabric well beneath the top drawer to store textiles.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut joinery, original brass hardware, natural wood patination, and original brass castors on scroll or splayed legs. The interior drawer configuration frequently displays hand-cut dividers for sewing tools.

A period work table functions effectively as an occasional side table beside a sofa, a compact hallway accent piece, or a bedside table. Its narrow profile allows placement in compact spaces while adding historical contrast to contemporary decor.

Timber surfaces should be preserved with regular applications of high-grade beeswax polish rubbed along the grain. The pleated fabric basket should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and gently dusted with a soft brush.
