A substantial terracotta figure from the Jama-Coaque culture, Ecuador, dating to the Regional Development period. This high-quality ancient sculpture represents the more ambitious side of the culture’s production, conceived as an impressive ritual object for elite display rather than a common domestic ornament.

Modelled as a high-ranking lady in ceremonial costume, the piece embodies ancient refinement through its majestic headdress and theatrical ear ornaments. Its scale, professional internal mounting and decorative presence reflect the enduring taste for South American historicism translated into high-quality archaeological display.

Jama-Coaque ceramics occupied a respected niche within the market for ancient art and are known for their expressive modelling. The presence of a vintage typed gallery label and professional mounting identifies this as a superior display piece with clear private collection history.

A matte terracotta finish and stabilised surface are combined with a museum-standard black wooden plinth and internal metal pin.
