London City Antiques has dated this Irish Killarney Marquetry Table to the 1860s.

The circular top is particularly impressive, displaying a superb radial yew ground with a finely shaped serpentine edge. It is intricately inlaid with traditional Irish motifs, framed by double crossbanding, with a central leaf design creating a strong focal point. The depth of colour and contrast in the timber is excellent and enhances the clarity and detail of the marquetry.

The table is raised on a substantial hexagonal pedestal, finely inlaid with harps and shamrocks, leading to a wide circular platform base with further inlay. It stands on three well carved scroll feet and has excellent scale, balance and presence, making it a true centrepiece.

Killarney furniture was produced as high quality decorative work for important interiors rather than everyday use. These pieces were made to impress, often purchased by wealthy visitors and collectors as symbols of Irish craftsmanship and heritage. Larger examples such as this were produced in smaller numbers and are considerably harder to find today.

While unlabelled, the quality, design and use of traditional motifs strongly suggest a connection to the Egan workshop or a closely related maker. The scale and richness of inlay place this among the finer surviving examples of Killarney furniture. Comparable pieces are held in private collections and are rarely offered on the open market.

Also referred to as a centre table or foyer table, this form is highly sought after for interior design projects. Ideal as a centre table in a grand entry hall or as a focal point in a formal room.
Condition report

Very good antique condition with a rich colour and patina. There are very minor age related marks to the top as expected. The structure is solid and the table presents extremely well.
