An Antique Solid Mahogany Collectors Cabinet Storebox Circa 1860

Description

A fine quality solid mahogany museum collectors cabinet store box circa 1860.

This type of box was used for the transport and storage of insect specimens and was commonly made of pine wood. This is a de-luxe storebox almost certainly made to order by a good cabinet maker for a man or woman of means!

The box is well made and base lined with the original cork and paper.

The box is labelled 'hope department oxford university museum from whence it came having resided there for well over 100 years.

Width. 18 inches.

Front to back. 12 inches.

Overall depth. 2.75 inches.

A good quality historic piece.
