We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A dumb waiter is a multi-tiered dining room accent piece developed in 18th-century Britain to allow diners to serve themselves without servants present. The design typically features two or three revolving, graduated circular trays supported by a central turned stem and tripod base.

Georgian dumb waiters were primarily crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, chosen for its rich colour, structural stability, and fine grain. Central support columns were turned on lathes, and tiers were assembled with hand-cut brass or timber fittings to allow smooth rotation.

Authentic 18th-century pieces show signs of hand-planing on the underside of trays, irregular hand-cut dovetails or threads, and natural shrinkage across the grain of the circular tops. Original legs feature hand-shaped cabriole or tripod forms, often with hand-carved pad or claw feet and historical patination.

A mahogany dumb waiter functions efficiently as an occasional side table, plant stand, or bar unit in modern living areas. Positioning the stand in a reading corner or dining alcove allows the graduated tiers to display books, glassware, or decorative ceramics.

Preserve dark mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a light coat of beeswax polish once or twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent timber warping or veneer splitting.
