During the nineteenth century, the study of natural history gained widespread popularity, leading to a demand for preserved fauna displayed within realistic domestic dioramas. Craftsmen created glass-fronted cases featuring native and exotic species set amongst simulated habitats, serving as educational models and decorative interior displays.
