Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in early 19th-century Britain, a Regency reading table is an occasional piece of furniture designed with shelves, tiers, or adjustable tops specifically intended to support books, reading materials, or light study paraphernalia.

Furniture makers during this period predominantly used dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany, featuring hand-dovetailed joints, turned legs, and solid brass castors secured to the base for mobility.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed underside surfaces, original brass castors with period screw fittings, hand-cut joinery, and a rich patina developed from natural timber ageing rather than synthetic staining.

Position the piece as an end table beside a modern sofa or armchair, using the lower shelf for curated art books and placing a table lamp or ceramic bowl on the top surface.

Dust the wooden surfaces regularly with a soft cotton cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste twice a year, avoiding direct exposure to heat sources or moisture.
