Description

A beautiful example of the work of brady of edmonton circa 1900. This solid mahogany entomological collectors cabinet has 32 drawers, all base lined with papered cork and glazed frame tops.

Brady is considered by many as the rolls royce of his time and this reputation has not been rivalled right up to the present day! His cabinets were made to the very highest standard and fashioned from the highest quality mahogany available. The precision and accuracy of construction appealed to collectors to provide the ultimate security and display potential for their collections. Aesthetically these cabinets ticked all the boxes. They were designed to produce the 'perfect rectangle'. The same criteria applied to the finest georgian furniture.

This 32 drawer brady is in super condition with all drawers running like silk and the colour and figuring of the timber exactly as would be expected of such a fine antique.

Originally designed for the display and protection of a collection of british butterflies this cabinet will serve a multitude of collecting pursuits for the discerning collector.

The cabinet stands on four turned 'bun' feet to allow air flow underneath. It is fitted with lock and key and two shoot bolts to the left hand door. Original glass to the doors and all drawers.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A collectors cabinet, often referred to as a specimen cabinet, is a specialised storage unit featuring multiple shallow drawers designed to organise, protect, and display natural history specimens, coins, or prints.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring glazed doors, brass fittings, and finely dovetailed shallow wooden drawers.

Authentic turn-of-the-century examples feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original locks, maker plates or stamps, and period-correct glass within the frame.

Position the cabinet as a focal piece in a home library, study, or hallway, using the shallow drawers to store art supplies, jewellery, or curated collections.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply beeswax polish annually along the wood grain.
